Bespoke Arden Garden Room
Stratford Upon Avon
Andrew first reached out to us early in the year, looking for a garden building that could serve as both a storage space and a gym. Keen to explore the possibilities, we invited him and Nedjma to our show site, where we discussed their requirements in detail. They left with a clear understanding of what Henley Garden Buildings could offer, and several months later, when Andrew was ready to move forward, we arranged a home visit to assess the space and refine the design of the Arden Garden Room.
Their garden was beautifully long and lined with mature trees and hedging, which gave us plenty to consider when planning the layout. It became clear that positioning the building to the side of the garden, partway down from the back, would provide the best balance—offering a sweeping 180-degree view while integrating naturally into the landscape.
Like many of our clients, Andrew and Nedjma had a budget they wanted to work within. Our focus was on designing a space that maximised usability while remaining efficient in its construction. By carefully tailoring the layout and specification, we ensured they could achieve the functionality they needed without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
The final result was a beautifully designed and highly functional garden room, perfectly tailored to Andrew and Nedjma’s needs. With an internal space of 6m x 3.2m and an external footprint of 6.3m x 3.5m, the building provided ample room for both a gym and storage area. A 60cm overhanging canopy with a matching step created a striking entrance, enhancing both the aesthetic and usability of the space.
Maximising the views was a key design focus. A large 3.6m glazed opening at the front, incorporating French doors and fixed side panels, allowed natural light to flood the room while framing the garden beautifully. To further enhance the connection to the outdoors, a full-height window was positioned facing the house, paired with a top-hinged window on the opposite gable wall, ensuring a seamless 180-degree view from within the room and a clear line of sight through the space when approaching from the garden.
The dimensions were carefully planned for efficiency, ensuring a cost-effective build without compromising on quality. The composite cladding was installed horizontally, making the most of our 3.6m cladding boards to minimise waste. Finished in Midnight, the cladding allowed the building to blend effortlessly into the natural surroundings, while the Spiced Oak deck and matching slatted canopy introduced warmth and depth, adding a subtle contrast to the dark exterior.
Internally, the colour scheme was chosen from our Neptune paint palette to enhance the sense of space and balance. Instead of the traditional rear feature wall, we opted for Shale on both gable ends to accentuate the length of the room.
Silverbirch was used on the entrance wall, while the rear wall was finished in Snow, a soft white that extended seamlessly onto the ceiling. The floor was completed with Quick-Step Largo in Long Island Natural Oak, bringing a natural warmth to the space and tying the whole design together.
The result was a beautifully considered garden room, offering a versatile space for both fitness and work.
Andrew & Nedjma were a pleasure to work with. We thank you for your trust In our business and process.
I could not recommend Henley Garden Buildings more highly. The quality of the Arden Garden Room, the attention to detail and the level of professionalism have been truly outstanding.
It’s rare to find a business which truly cares about all of the details and executes to such a high standard. Kevin and the team thought of everything.
Every stage of the process – from the incredibly helpful and innovative design phase right through to the project management of the build and handing over of warranties – has been first rate. We are absolutely delighted with our Arden garden room.
It’s amazing. It looks beautiful, the finish is first rate, it has excellent heating and insulation so it’s nice and warm and Henley Garden Buildings took care of everything. It really was ‘turnkey’.
The fitters took away all of the rubbish, we were connected to the electricity, we have a heater, remote controls for the heating and outdoor lighting, really nice flooring all done, painted walls, skirting – it was all ready to go inside two weeks.
Phenomenal. Kevin organised everything for us including finding someone for the foundations, the wifi connection, electrics etc.
We honestly have done virtually nothing during the two weeks of the build and everyone was so self sufficient and professional we could just get on with normal life then two weeks later: we have a new living space as a family. We’re going to be able to have a load of extra space now for work and gym and hanging out with the kids.
I would also add that when shopping around and comparing prices be sure to get everything properly priced up for the whole of the project and understand what build quality and insulation is proposed.
Some providers leave you to source your own providers for foundations and electrics etc and those items really add up. Others can look cheaper initially but be sure to add it all up and compare like for like.
For us there was very little in it in the end and we could see that the quality of the HGB product was superior.
Add to that the expert eye and help with every last detail down to the finish on the plug sockets and the choice was an easy one. A great experience all around and so great to see local family businesses operating at this high standard. I would recommend to anyone.
