Bespoke Garden Studio
Kings Heath, Birmingham
We were contacted by Pat and Jo from The Brandwood Centre, Kings Heath. Through their hard work, they had managed to secure funding for a garden studio within their grounds of the centre, for all of the community to be able to use as a warm hub, training room, and even a cafe. The building needed to fit into a small grass section to the rear of their carpark and it had to have disability access and flush floor thresholds.
The land was very uneven and would need considerable groundwork as the rear section fell away quite steeply. It was obvious from the start that the building would need to be a bespoke design to suit their needs. A unique design was soon created, and work began.
Fast forward a few months following the completion of the first studio, and the pro-active pair managed to secure more funding for a second building on the site as the first was proving to be invaluable.
It was so important to ensure that that both of the buildings blended calmy into their secure surroundings, so Argent cladding was chosen with highlights of Havana decking. The first building now aptly named ‘The Happy Hub’ was cleverly designed to have a wide wheelchair access from the path in-front of the car park, bi-fold doors were used to allow plenty of light into the area.
The second Studio named ‘The Burrows’ was designed to sit alongside ‘The Happy Hub’, so again, Argent cladding was used with matching decking. This studio was designed side on to the car park to work around the lamp post. A wide side door was used for wheelchair access and a balustrade was added for safety and decorative aesthetics.
Both Studios were decorated internally in warm inviting colours enabling them to be suitable for all uses. Pat had particular colours in mind, which we believe work really well.
We thoroughly enjoyed working on both of these projects and especially getting to know all of the committed staff that work at the Centre. We are very proud and humbled to be part of their journey and hope they and the community continue to thrive.
