At Henley Garden Buildings, we believe that a strong, durable garden room begins with the right foundation. The structure beneath your building plays a vital role in its long-term performance, which is why we take a site-specific approach to every project. Before any work begins, we assess the terrain, environmental conditions, access and planning requirements to determine the most appropriate foundation method. When the ground conditions are suitable, a traditional concrete base offers exceptional stability, longevity and strength.
Concrete Base Foundations – Solid, Level & Long-Lasting
A concrete base provides a highly reliable structure for your garden building, giving you a perfectly level and stable surface to support the entire installation. Installed by our experienced groundworkers, this method offers the ideal combination of solidity and precision. The process begins with excavation to around eight inches (approximately 200mm), allowing us to create a clean, level surface. Once the area is prepared, we add four inches (100mm) of compacted MOT Type 1 hardcore to form a strong, dependable sub-base that prevents unwanted movement or settling.
With the sub-base complete, four inches (100mm) of high-quality concrete is poured and levelled with exceptional accuracy. This creates a smooth, load-bearing finish that ensures your structure is supported evenly across its entire footprint. A damp proof membrane is included in every build, protecting your garden building from rising ground moisture and ensuring long-term structural integrity.
Why a Concrete Base Works So Well
A concrete base provides a perfectly level and stable foundation that ensures your structure sits securely from day one. Its excellent load-bearing capability makes it ideal for supporting heavy garden buildings, extensions, or outdoor installations without risk of movement or settlement. Built to withstand the elements, a high-quality concrete base offers long-term durability with zero ongoing maintenance, giving you a reliable, worry-free foundation for years to come.
When We Recommend a Concrete Base
We typically recommend a concrete base when the terrain is flat or only mildly sloped, or when the ground is soft or variable. If the site has good access for machinery and materials, a concrete foundation becomes an even more practical option.
A strong structure always begins from the ground up. With Henley Garden Buildings, your foundation is more than just a base — it is the starting point for a garden building designed to stand firm, perform beautifully and last for many years to come.
