Claire and Jules approached us with a truly inspiring brief: to create a bespoke garden room on a site of historic significance. With planning permission already in place, the design had to meet strict guidelines from Historic England and Warwickshire Archaeology.
From the start, it was clear they had already put great effort into securing the necessary approvals. Our mission was to deliver a thoughtfully crafted garden room that respected the site’s medieval heritage while offering a modern, stylish retreat.
Navigating Historic England Requirements
We submitted a carefully prepared proposal to Historic England, presenting two eco-conscious options for construction that would preserve the archaeological value of the site. The designs focused on minimizing ground disruption while maximizing usability and visual appeal. Thankfully, our proposal was approved quickly, allowing the project to move forward without delays.
A Stunning Garden Room with Panoramic Views
The completed garden room measured an impressive 5.7m x 2.7m, designed as both a functional home office and a peaceful chill-out zone. Set on an elevated section of the garden, the space offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside—an element that deeply influenced our design choices.
To fully embrace the landscape, we included a 3.6m-wide front opening, top-hinged windows at the rear that overlook tranquil woodland, and a striking aluminium picture window framed in oak—perfectly capturing the scenery beyond.
Seamless Exterior Design
For the exterior, we chose vertical Argent cladding panels for a sleek, modern look. A spacious 90cm front step and deck in Spiced Oak composite decking welcomes you into the space, while a matching 90cm slatted canopy overhead creates depth and visual balance. The combination of textures and tones gives the garden room a natural yet contemporary finish.
Interior Styling for Serenity
Inside the garden room, every detail was chosen to evoke a sense of calm and comfort. Feature walls at each end were painted in Grey Oak by Neptune, while the remaining walls were finished in their soft Driftwood hue. Underfoot, Quick-Step Largo’s Vintage Grey Oak flooring provided the perfect rustic foundation, tying the entire space together.
