Claire and Jules approached us with a particularly interesting project, as their proposed garden room site lay within an area of historical significance. With a successful planning application already in place, they needed guidance on how to navigate the additional layers of complexity presented by Historic England and Warwickshire Archaeology.
Following our initial meeting, it was clear that Claire and Jules had already been through an extensive process to gain planning approval. Our focus was to help them design a garden room that would both complement the space and carefully preserve the medieval remains beneath the surface.
We submitted a proposal to Historic England outlining two options for ground preservation and sustainable development—both designed to minimise impact while delivering a beautiful, functional garden building. The proposal was quickly approved, allowing us to move forward with confidence.
The finished garden room measured an impressive 5.7m x 2.7m and was designed as a multifunctional home office and chill-out space. Positioned on an elevated section of the garden, the room enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding countryside—a feature that played a pivotal role in the design process.
To make the most of the outlook, we incorporated a large 3.6m opening to the front, rear top-hinged windows overlooking the woodland behind, and a stunning aluminium picture window framed in oak, perfectly capturing the landscape beyond.
Externally, the building was clad in vertical Argent panels, complemented by a generous 90cm step and deck in Spiced Oak composite decking. This was mirrored above by a 90cm overhanging canopy, finished in slatted Spiced Oak cladding to add both depth and contrast.
Inside, the décor was carefully chosen to create a calm, natural atmosphere. Feature walls at either end were painted in Grey Oak by Neptune, with the remaining walls in their soft Driftwood shade. The flooring was finished in Quick-Step Largo’s Vintage Grey Oak, tying the whole space together with a warm, rustic feel.
Claire and Jules were incredibly patient, trusting, and a real pleasure to work with throughout. Both Jackie and I are so proud to have been part of this unique project—and to have helped bring their vision to life in such a special setting that will be enjoyed for many years to come.
From our first meeting with Kevin and Jackie, we knew Henley Garden Buildings was the right company for our project. Their personal service, design ideas and attention to detail, along with the exceptional quality of their showrooms, made them really stand out. They also took the time to understand the requirements of our project and offered a range of solutions.
The bespoke garden room that was designed for us is beautiful, and the picture window really gives it the wow factor.
The whole build process was seamless and delivered on time, with a detailed and clearly communicated project plan. The finish and materials are of excellent quality and the team was a pleasure to work with.
We are delighted with our new garden room; it has exceeded our expectations. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Henley Garden Buildings to anyone looking for a garden room or outbuilding.
